The Advisory Committee on the University of Toronto Library System

Terms of Reference

The Advisory Committee on the University of Toronto Library System shall review, on an ongoing basis, policies with respect to the University Library system in the light of the University's general and divisional objectives, and shall make appropriate recommendations to the office of the Vice-President and Provost.

All major policy matters will be brought forward to the appropriate committees of the Governing Council.

In particular, the Committee shall concern itself with:

  1. Policy matters relating to collection building, bibliographical control and technical services, reader services and library automation.
  2. The resources required for the operation of the library system and the priorities in the allocation of these resources.
  3. The relationships among libraries in the University of Toronto.
  4. The relationships of the University of Toronto Library system to other libraries in Ontario and beyond.

Composition

The Advisory Committee shall have not more than 16 members including:

  • The Chief Librarian;
  • Two members of the Academic Board;
  • Three professional librarians nominated by the Librarians' Association of the University of Toronto;
  • Not more than nine members appointed by the Vice-President and Provost, to be reported for information to the Academic Board.
  • The Chair shall be appointed by the Vice-President and Provost.
