The College of Electors is a governance body composed of alumni members who proportionally represent each of the constituent alumni associations of the University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA). The College is responsible for two functions: electing the Chancellor and electing alumni governors who sit on the Governing Council.
SELECTION OF THE CHANCELLOR
Dr. Wesley J. Hall was appointed by the College of Electors as the 35th Chancellor of the University. He is currently serving a 3-year term from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.
The next election for Chancellor will take place in 2027. A Call for Nominations will open from November 12, 2026 to December 10, 2026. Chancellor Hall is eligible to stand for re-election.
SELECTION OF ALUMNI GOVERNORS
The College of Electors seeks applications for two alumni governor seats available on the Governing Council for terms beginning July 1, 2027.
Applications are open from November 12 to December 10, 2026.
HOW TO JOIN THE COLLEGE OF ELECTORS
Alumni are appointed to the College by their Alumni Association. Terms of office are one (1) year from July 1 to June 30 and may not exceed four (4) consecutive years.
Members are required to attend in-person meetings at St. George campus between November and March. Members' responsibilities include conducting outreach among alumni networks in the recruitment of alumni governor candidates and keeping abreast of the University's governance agenda and institutional priorities as well as broader issues in the higher education sector.
