Kathleen Yu is an Associate Professor (Teaching Stream) in the Department of Economics at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Since joining the economics department in 2009, Professor Yu has taught a wide range of courses with emphasis in large classes at the introductory and intermediate level. Her time at the university has been focused on developing student mentorship and encouraging student-faculty engagement. Kathleen initiated and designed the department’s Internship Course, to help students in their fourth year of study to gain relevant project-based work experience, establish connections with industry professionals, and to develop and enhance their professional skills. She also serves as the faculty advisor to the department’s undergraduate academic society, the Undergraduate Economics Council (UEC). She holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego (2002); M.A. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine (2008); Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine (2010). Her dissertation is a collection of papers studying the impact of government-mandated children’s health and education policies. Professor Yu has previously served on the UTM Academic Affairs Committee. She will begin her first three-year term as a teaching staff member of the UTM Campus Council, from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
