Minutes of the College of Electors virtual meeting held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.

  1. Chair’s Remarks

    The Chair welcomed members and guests to the meeting. 

    On motion duly moved, seconded, and carried, the College moved In Camera.
     
  2. Report of the Chancellor Review Committee

    The Report of the Chancellor Review Committee was presented to the College.

    Election of the Chancellor of the University of Toronto

    The College held an election for the Chancellor by secret ballot. Once the ballots had been counted, the Chair announced that the Dr. Rose M. Patten. O.C., LLD (Hon), been re-elected as Chancellor of the University of Toronto for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2021.

    The Chair expressed thanks to the members of the Executive Committee for their work on the Chancellor Review Committee. He also extended thanks, on behalf of the College, to the President and the Chair of the Governing Council for their contributions and commitment to the 2021 Chancellor Review process

    On motion duly moved, seconded, and carried, the College moved into Open Session

    Ms. Jennifer Dolman, Vice-Chair, took the role of the Acting Chair.

CONSENT AGENDA

The Acting Chair noted that of the items listed on the Consent Agenda, one (Item 3) required approval and the others were for information only.

On a motion duly moved, seconded and carried

IT WAS RESOLVED

THAT the consent agenda be adopted and items approved.

  1. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

    The minutes of the meeting of January 21, 2021 were approved.
     
  2. Business Arising from the Minutes of the Previous Meeting

    There was no business arising from the minutes of the previous meeting.
     
  3. Date of Next Meeting 

    The Chair reminded members that the next meeting would be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
     
  4. Nomination Process 2021-2022 Executive Committee of the College of Electors

    The Acting Chair noted that three members in their fourth year had previously volunteered at the September 21st meeting to serve on the 2020-2021 Nominating Committee for the Executive Committee (NC-EC).  They were Mr. Neville Austin (Faculty of Music), Ms Victoria McNally (St. Michael's College) and Ms Emily VanBerkum (St. Michael's College)

    Ms. Dolman provided some background information about the membership process outlined in the Constitution.  Continuing members were encouraged to consider applying to serve on the 2021-2022 Executive Committee. 

    The application deadline was Wednesday, March 31st.  The NC-EC would prepare a recommendation to the College for its final meeting.

    Mr. Cambray returned to the Chair.

    On motion duly moved, seconded, and carried, the College moved In Camera.
     
  5. Election of Alumni Governors

    The Nominating Committee for Alumni Governors (NC-AG) reported to the College on the interviews of candidates that had been held and on the Committee’s recommendations. 

    The following alumni were elected as members of Governing Council:

    Mr. Paul Huyer elected for a term from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024 [Bachelor of Commerce, Victoria College (1981)]

    Dr. Geeta Yadav elected for a term from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024 [Honours Bachelor of Science, University College (2003)]

    The Chair expressed thanks to the members of the College and the Nominating Committee - Alumni Governors (NC-AG) for their work.

    On motion duly moved, seconded, and carried, the College moved into Open Session
     
  6. Other Business

    The Chair reminded members that at the May meeting, the College would be considering the “Report of the 2020-2021 Nominating Committee for the Executive Committee” (NC-EC) and also select the membership of 2021-2022 Nominating Committee for the Executive Committee (NC-EC).

    Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
