Rhonda McEwen is a Canada Research Chair in Tactile Interfaces, Communication and Cognition. She is an associate professor at the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology and at the iSchool, at the University of Toronto. In her co-authored book Understanding Tablets from Early Childhood to Adulthood: Encounters with Touch Technology (2017), Dr. McEwen describes her theory of user-device interaction that defines the exchange between humans and machines as a unique form of communication. She has published over 19 academic articles and book chapters. Dr. McEwen is from Trinidad and Tobago and has studied, worked, and lived in four countries collecting degrees from each. In 1998-2000 she worked for Cable and Wireless, a global telecommunications company, travelling to 16 countries in a year working on Y2K IT and engineering compliance. She also spent 15-years as a business technology consultant with Deloitte and then IBM before her current academic career. She is an avid reader, cook, and loves Trinidad carnival. Rhonda McEwen lives in Toronto with her husband and two children.
