Aayush Rathi
As a second-year Rotman Commerce student, I have developed strong leadership skills through my roles as Secretary-General for VIMUN (2024), ALAMUN (2023), and YIPMUN (2022). These experiences taught me how to bring people together and represent diverse perspectives. I am passionate about fostering a more inclusive and transparent community where every student feels empowered to share their voice. As someone from a visible minority, I understand the importance of meaningful dialogue and collaboration in driving change. I am committed to advocating for policies that reflect the needs of our UofT community and championing solutions that make a difference for all.

My priorities include enhancing accessibility, supporting mental health, and celebrating cultural diversity. By collaborating with student groups, I will work to create initiatives that reflect the needs of our entire campus. Together, we can build a supportive environment where everyone belongs. I hope to earn your trust and your vote to make our campus stronger for all.
Albert (Zhongheng) Pan
I desire an environment where undergraduate student voices are heard, and taken seriously. I was inspired to run when I saw the lack of representation of undergraduate student voices, especially those of UTM students. Whether you're a UTM student, a UTSC student, or a UTSG student, we are all U of T students. Together we can make a U of T that puts the students first. My previous experience in university governance such as UTM's Campus Affairs Committee has taught me how to play the game, and I intend to play for the students' best interest in the Governing Council.
Aleeza Sheikh
I am Aleeza Sheikh, a first-year student at Rotman Commerce. As an active undergraduate student, I am committed to advocating for the needs and voices of my peers on the University of Toronto’s Governing Council. With experience in student leadership, I understand the significance of governance in balancing academic and financial decisions, in line with the institution’s core principles. I recognize the importance of upholding the university’s governing framework and its commitment to equity, inclusion, and transparency. I aim to ensure student concerns about affordability, accessibility, and inclusion are considered, while supporting policies that enable a thriving, diverse university community.
Arhaan Lulla
It is with profound delight and gratitude I am submitting my nomination driven by my aspiration to serve on the University of Toronto's Governing Council. I have been active in the student community and understand their needs, desires and grievances. Once elected, I will make sure to drive decision making in the best interest of the University. It is my firm belief that every step in the right direction is a promise for a better tomorrow, and it is with this motto I intend on executing my duties.
Thank you very much!
Ayman Kashif
Hi, you! I’m a second-year Bio and Psych major living on campus at UTM, so I’m always connected to student life. I believe every student should know and have a say in the decisions that affect them. That’s why I want to be the voice of the people. Through my campaign’s social media, I’ll keep students updated and involved in the decision-making process by posting polls, Q&As, and meeting summaries. I’ve done this on the Academic Affairs Committee and now want to represent students on broader issues across academics, campus life, and student affairs. Together, let’s make your voice heard!
Azeez Jabir
What I bring to the table, especially as a first-year student, is fresh perspective which I believe demonstrates my values of caring, being heard, and understood, things that are universally deserved by every individual indiscriminately. I promise to help govern UofT as honestly as I can, to the best of my ability, and to collaborate with my colleagues to create and oversee what will surely become the best possible environment to learn and grow together as a community.
Benjamin Phan
As a first-year Finance student at UTSC, I, Benjamin Phan, am committed to helping make University of Toronto a place where ambitious and hardworking future leaders can grow, step out of their comfort zones, and truly "defy gravity." My goal is to advocate for a more supportive and challenging academic environment, ensuring first-year students have the resources and opportunities to succeed. I believe in fostering a culture of growth, where every student feels inspired to reach their full potential. I am dedicated to representing student voices and working to create an environment that empowers us all to thrive. Thank you!

I believe in the transformative power of respectful debate that ensures every voice is heard. My work with student clubs and community outreach has shown me how inclusive, forward-thinking policies can uplift our entire community. Let’s create a campus where everyone can thrive and shape our shared future together!
Dakoda Kelm
The University of Toronto needs to take responsibility for colonial harms both domestic and abroad with First Nations people and those in the Palestine name a few. Having experience working with politics on the not for profit Two Rivers Metis Society, I know what it takes to make policy changes that actually stick and wont be weaseled out of. As a first priority, I want to make the University recognize September 30th, the national day of truth and reconciliation, as a statutory holiday like most other universities in Canada such as Queens or UBC. Let's build a better UofT!
Defne Sam Alkan
You don’t need abstract connections to choose the people present you. What you need is someone who already is working for you, which I am. As girls with cramps, we are cuddling our hot-water bags, trying to hand our assignments on time. I am in the process of talking with Miss Kristen Moore, Dean of Students, to give girls two day unexplained time away from school for every month to take the time we need for our cycles and physical health. With your help, we can equalize our conditions and take care of ourselves in the system built for men.
Dzhafar Kabidenov
Hello! I'm a third-year Public Policy & Economics student, and I'm eager to examine issues through the lens of student experience. I've fruitfully served on various UofT advisory boards for two years, including the Tri-Campus Student Mental Health and the International Student Experience Advisory Committees. As a student mentor at St. Michael's College, I find it essential to regularly interact with the UofT community to promptly address a responsible authority for enacting relevant measures. I'm looking forward to realizing the concept of involved advocacy, which is driven by my vision of enhancing aspects of student life at UofT. More: https://www.instagram.com/vote.dzhafar/

My fellow peers, My goal is to represent undergraduate students on the Governing Council and take accountability for the changes we all want to see on campus. Hana Greenberg
Representative governance is important to ensure that students feel comfortable raising concerns that may require understanding of group-specific cultural or social nuances. As Director of Advocacy in VUSAC, member of the varsity swim team, and a polyglot, I aim to reflect different cultures and needs in policy-making. I will work to ensure that marginalized students feel welcome in classroom spaces via clear guidelines and practices surrounding civic discourse. Moreover, I will be transparent about university governance to students not directly in leadership, and will listen if they raise concerns about policies with which they do not align.
Hiba Kourani
As a representative of international first-year students, I offer a unique perspective on discrepancies between university promises and the reality of campus facilities. I believe improving services, facilities, and management will enhance first-year performance, strengthening the university's reputation. Serving as liaison between students and administration in high school, I developed strong communication and leadership skills. My first days in Canada were challenging, leaving a lasting impact on me. I learned resilience and perseverance, which fueled my commitment to excellence, inclusion, and inspiring others. I aim to bridge the gap between students and administration, bringing real experiences to the decision-making table.
Himmal Ladhar
I’m a second-year Political Science student with a strong commitment to community engagement and student advocacy. At St. Michael’s College, I’m deeply involved in leadership and peer support roles, serving on Residence Council, as a Mentor-Leader, and as an Executive Member for SMCPride. These roles have given me firsthand insight into the challenges students face and have driven my passion for ensuring that all voices are heard and represented. I am running for the Governing Council to bring all student perspectives directly into decision-making processes, making sure that every student at University of Toronto feels supported, respected, and included.

Jonathan Holubko
Hello everyone! My name is Jonathan Holubko. I am a first-year student at the University of Toronto St. George campus. I am a part of New College and I will be running for a spot on the governance council. If elected I will ensure that I provide exceptional advice regarding the university’s various missions to ensure students' concerns are met. I previously served as an ambassador for the student body where I gained valuable experience in advocacy, leadership, and accountability. Furthermore, I encourage people to reach out to me to discuss any questions.
Khizar Maraj
Hey UofT! I'm Khizar, an international student at UTSG who, like many of you, has struggled with long walks to class, sky-high costs, and figuring out where my voice fits in this massive university. That’s why I’m running—to make sure students like us are heard. Whether it’s pushing for better funding, improving student support, or just making UofT feel a little more like home, I’m here for it. If you want someone who actually gets it (and will fight for it), vote for me! Let’s make UofT work for all of us!
Lavender Lo
Hello everyone! Lily Chai
As a responsible and reliable person, I value accountability and punctuality when fulfilling my role and working with others to meet a common goal. While I may be an introvert, I am willing to step out of my comfort zone and grow as a leader. My experience as a Grade 12 band percussion organizer taught me leadership, organization, and communication skills that I am eager to bring to the Governing Council. Luca Quatela
This year, the university increased tuition for international and out-of-province students, and voiced their desire to do the same for domestic students. Yet, in that same $3.52 billion budget, the spending of over 500 million of OUR dollars went undisclosed. It doesn't add up — they want more from us, yet they won't tell us where hundreds of millions of our dollars are going. If elected, I will demand answers, be a relentless voice on the Governing Council against tuition hikes and wasteful spending, and ensure YOUR voice always has a seat at the table. Let's move UofT forward, together.
Mapalo Mushoriwa
As a UofT National Scholar, I greatly value this institution and find all issues regarding it of utmost concern. Due to my well-versed involvement throughout my education career, I am equipped to view situations from the standpoint of many diverse students. My prior involvement in the Student Leadership Council has granted me experience in approvals, oversight, and giving advance on initiatives, some of the key aspects this position entails. If elected, I plan to act in a way that honours this school's reputation and upholds our values: inclusion, reciprocity, and accountability.
Mei Zeng
I'm Mei and running for university governance because someone has to represent us: and it should be someone who understands how not to burn popcorn in the dorms. I'm dedicated to honing critical skills, like finding the best study spots on campus and convincing professors to give me an extension. I’m like you: a student juggling deadlines, caffeine addiction, and the constant mystery of whether tuition fees fund Wi-Fi that works. I want to make governance less intimidating and a lot more effective for students. Vote Mei to make the university experience slightly less chaotic and a lot more awesome!
Rishi Shah
UofT has incredible potential, but outdated systems and inefficiencies waste students' time, money, and opportunities. As a 4th-year undergrad, I’ve seen it firsthand. We need leadership on the Governing Council that doesn’t stop at roadblocks—it builds better roads. When I led UofT’s first participative Guinness World Record attempt, it wasn’t about recognition but proving what’s possible when we think big. I’m ready to tackle what holds us back: 1. Streamline slow systems. 2. Cut wasteful spending. 3. Build a campus that listens to YOU. Let's stop accepting mediocrity when greatness is within our grasp! Let’s shape UofT’s future—together. https://linktr.ee/rishiishah

Wolfgang van Gulik
I’ll cut the preamble and get straight to my policies; I support: 1. Fighting back against the government's recent restrictions on international students; mainly visa restrictions and the proposed 2026 ban on them from enrolling in UofT’s medical school. 2. Climat Justice UofT’s call for UofT’s pension fund to divest from fossil fuels. 3. More STEM representation in student government. 4. Working with the new MAP DWG to ensure our campus is safe for all students and that nothing like the encampment happens again. 5. Investing more in student residences. If you support any of these initiatives, vote for Wolfgang!
Yuzune Naruse
Hello, everyone. As a dedicated student with a passion for fostering positive changes, I’ll commit to enhancing your experiences with a focus on financial challenges and campus resource accessibility. In my previous role as Student Government President at a college in New York, I led initiatives that significantly boosted student engagement and successfully advocated for a $97 million increase in the state’s annual budget allocation to colleges. Your voice and experiences matter. With your support, I will bring my skills and dedication to advocate your needs to support and encourage growth and success for all at UTSC.

Jay-Daniel Baghbanan
Hello! Ever seen a music student on here before? Did you even know we had a professional faculty of music? Well it's true, and we need representation. Being one of the top music schools in Canada, putting on two full opera productions (free for uoft students) a year, and over 60+ concerts annually, we deserve a place on the council. I've been nominated to speak for those unheard, to get the University to care for us equitably, and still find time to practice. Cheers!
Katherine Getler
As a second-year Indigenous law student, I'm committed to improving the student experience. My background in regulatory compliance, focused on investigating misconduct and ensuring transparency in local government, instilled in me a commitment to ethical conduct and public accountability. My own experiences navigating the University's bureaucracy highlighted the need for clear, accessible processes for students to challenge decisions that impact their well-being and academic futures. If the University is truly bound by its codes of conduct, it must provide avenues for students to seek redress. My experience and dedication to fairness will allow me to effectively advocate for these improvements.

Evin Gupta
I'm applying for the Governing Council because I want to make the most of the resources available to grad students and help create a meaningful and lasting college experience. Instead of spending years hunting for tips and advice and only being able to implement them afterwards, I’d rather figure out what’s already out there for grad students, make sure everyone knows about it, and encourage people to use it. And if something’s missing, I’d rather step up and get it started myself instead of waiting around for someone else to do it.
Kareem Draz

My leadership experience and commitment to volunteering demonstrate my dedication to community service. Kate Baggott
Communications Officer for the Department of Economics & trustee of the District School Board of Niagara. The pursuit of education throughout our lives is key to our economic survival, our wellbeing, physical health, and social cohesion. The structures humanity has invented to support learning are time-tested, but they are always vulnerable. Access, and the necessity of access to education at all levels, is the easiest point of attack and it is my view that all actions of Governing Council must include a will to protect and expand access to the University of Toronto and its opportunities to learn.
Kathleen Ogden
In sixteen years at UofT, including eight years as a learning strategist, I’ve learned that the most pressing responsibility of any campus leader is to champion their constituents’ concerns. As we kick off the GC campaign season, I want to connect with as many of my fellow staff members as possible. I want to understand your priorities and worries. If elected, I pledge not only to keep those lines of communication open, but also to keep you updated on issues that affect your work, workplaces, and communities—and to represent your experiences in every decision I’m called to make. kathleenogden.ca

I want to make UofT better for everyone. I believe the best way to achieve this is by collaborating within groups that have the same purpose, which is the reason I want to be part of the Governing Council. My first day at UofT was on a winter day during the pandemic. I started on an entry-level position at capital projects. Now, I am the Senior Project Manager who led the renovation of the FitzGerald building, the new home of nine of our admin groups. Vote for me and let me expand the ways I can continue improving UofT.

Currently, I volunteer on a community engagement committee at The ArQuives, where I have learned much about the queer community. Previously I served on the Campus Affairs Committee of UTSC's Governing Council. I have a wide range of experiences and knowledge to bring to this position.
Sarosh Jamal
UofT has been my home for 25 years, spanning 2 degrees, campuses and multiple divisions. My core belief is that collaboration and acknowledgement are keys to staff success. With increasing responsibilities, I’ve learnt to manage complex technical, operational issues during my tenure. Mandates I consistently believe in and support are inclusiveness, job security, staff-development and compensation. If re-elected Governor, I will bring a continued watchful approach to our university's strategic and financial goals while providing trustworthy and informed decision-making. I want to ensure sustainable resource distribution allowing us all to perform safer and healthier as a collective.
