George Myhal

A widely respected leader in the financial services industry, George Myhal is the President and CEO of Windermere Investment Corporation, a family office investment company that invests in real estate, private equity and the capital markets.


Mr. Myhal began his distinguished career at Brookfield Asset Management Inc. where he served for close to 40 years. He joined Brookfield as Assistant Treasurer when the firm had less than a dozen employees. When he stepped down as Senior Managing Partner, the firm employed 25,000 in offices around the world. Mr. Myhal was instrumental in developing Brookfield’s asset management business which currently comprises $300 billion of assets under management. Today, Brookfield is a leading global manager of real assets such as property, power, infrastructure and private equity.


Mr. Myhal also served in various capacities with Brookfield subsidiaries and affiliates. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Trilon Financial Corporation from December 1992 until the company was privatized by Brookfield in 2002. In this role, Mr. Myhal was responsible for restructuring and repositioning Brookfield’s financial services subsidiaries, which involved the restructuring and sale of Royal Trust, London Insurance Group, Triathlon Leasing and many other operations. Prior to that, Mr. Myhal was a Managing Partner of Hees International Bancorp Inc., a merchant bank and a predecessor to Brookfield. He joined the Brookfield group of companies (then known as Brascan) in 1981.


Mr. Myhal is an industrial engineering graduate of the University of Toronto, and has a long history as a volunteer at U of T. He served for close to a decade on the Governing Council where he sat on the Business Board and chaired the Audit Committee. He is past member of the Great Minds campaign cabinet, current member of the Boundless campaign executive, and chair of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering campaign executive committee. He continues to advise the Faculty through the Dean’s Strategic Council.


Other board service includes director of Trisura Group Ltd. and Eurobank Ergassias SA, and past director of Brookfield and several companies in the Brookfield group, and of the Harbourfront Centre.


In 2017, George Myhal was named a member of the Order of Canada for his achievements as an investment and finance leader, and for his philanthropic contributions, notably in support of innovation in engineering.


Mr. Myhal is married and has five daughters. He is 62 years old. His recreational interests include golf, skiing and reading.
