About the Day

RETURNING TO CAMPUS FOR YOUR 2020-2021 GRADUATION CELEBRATION?

Please note that there is no charge for celebration tickets.

Attending the celebration is a simple two-step process. You will first need to create an account using the information sent to you via email from <Marching Order on behalf of grad.celebration@utoronto.ca>. From there, you can complete your registration after you have arranged for your Gown and Hood Rental. RSVP and guest ticket orders are the second step in the process.

The 2020-2021 Graduation Celebrations will be held in Convocation Hall on November 12, and from December 5-17, 2022. Please see celebration dates for details. The celebrations will be approximately 60 - 90 minutes in duration.

The University of Toronto respects your privacy. Celebrations and related events are public and recorded in various ways. These images and recordings may be used for official purposes, such as promoting the University of Toronto. If you have any questions, please contact us through our web form and select Convocation Privacy as the request type.

What to wear

Most gowns, except for doctoral gowns, have a zippered front and normally fall to just below the knee. This is your celebration, please dress accordingly! Don’t forget your footwear – there will be long periods of standing and walking.

Many aspects of the event will take place outdoors, for instance your arrival, the procession from the Medical Sciences Building, after the event, etc. Please be sure that you and your guests dress appropriately for both the weather and the day. If you choose to wear a coat over your gown or use an umbrella for the procession into Convocation Hall, you will need to store the items under your seat in the Hall.

Regretfully, there is no coat check at either the Medical Sciences Building or Convocation Hall.

Arrival and assembly

*Impact for December: Construction on College Street will have major impacts on getting to/from the campus. Please refer to the City of Toronto site for more information.*

In order to ensure a memorable celebratory experience for you and your guests, we kindly request that you follow the instructions below:

Please arrive 1.5 hours prior to the beginning of the celebration and collect your academic regalia before proceeding to the marshalling rooms. Regalia can be collected in the C. David Naylor Student Commons of the Medical Sciences Building (MSB), 1 King's College Circle.

After collecting your regalia, please proceed to the Marshalling area to collect your marshalling card and to assemble for the procession. It is important that you arrive in the Marshalling Area at least 1 hour and 15 minutes before your ceremony. The Marshalling Area is also in MSB - follow the signage.

Graduates will be placed in the order in which they will be presented. It is essential to remain in this order to ensure accurate presentation at the celebration. Out of respect for fellow attendees, it is requested that the graduates return to their seats in the Hall after crossing the stage and remain in their seats until the conclusion of the event.
